Rep. Sykes Announces Over $3.6 Million for Infrastructure Improvements to Akron-Canton Regional Airport
GREEN, OH – U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Akron-Canton Regional Airport two grants totaling $3.6 million to upgrade its infrastructure.
“The Akron-Canton Regional Airport is an important economic driver in Northeast Ohio, and these funds will ensure this airport can continue to grow and serve our community safely and efficiently. I will continue working to bring federal funding home to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to upgrade our infrastructure, thereby bolstering our economy,” said Rep. Sykes.
“We are immensely grateful to Congresswoman Sykes for her continued advocacy and support of the Akron-Canton Airport (CAK),” said Ren Camacho, President and CEO of CAK. “The Federal Aviation Administration Bipartisan Infrastructure Law grants will allow us to make significant improvements to our facilities, enhancing both safety and the overall customer experience. These investments are crucial to our commitment to serving the community and ensuring the airport remains a vital asset to the region’s growth and connectivity.”
Both grants are in the amount of $1.8 million and are part of the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminal Program. One grant will be used to replace and install two passenger boarding bridges and associated pre-conditioned air units. The second grant will be used to replace four baggage carousels that are past their useful life and require replacement of outdated parts that are extremely difficult to attain from current industry vendors.
